FRIDAY BLOCK PARTY AND ANNETTE's BIRTHDAY

Today was Annette's birthday, she was 36, bet she will moan I have put that there for all to see. Age doesn't worry me, I don't mind folk knowing how old I am so why should it bother others? ho hum. Anyway, I picked Reb up from school for her today and popped over to see what she had for her birthday, she seemed to have had some lovely prezzies and a fair few cards, no doubt she will be putting them on her Blog when she gets time, now she has two jobs there isn't a lot of spare time for her. Here though are some piccies of her yummy cake, Reb decorated it for her, made a really good job of it too considering she hadn't used a piping bag before.

It was really scrummy
Happy Birthday Annette

Friday Block Party

I belong to a group online who are making one block per week. Well, that is the plan but I am way behind - nothing new - so  I pulled some fabrics from my cupboard and then I cut out some strips in the most used sizes, so as not to waste any time, then I went for it...

Here are the strips all pinned up ready for use...

as I said the most used sizes...

plus I cut some 6" as there are a few larger squares needed occasionally...

this is how I store them, on a trouser hanger, the safety pin slips over the hooks either side,
I can just lift off the strip I need as and when...
let's go...

ALL the patterns are from the Quilter's Cache by the way
Queen Charlotte's Crown...

Hearth and Home...

Mrs. Morgan's Choice...

1930's Square...
I laid this one out differently to the way it should have been done - cos I can...

1941 Nine Patch...

Z Cross...

Leap Frog...

Rally Round...

Envelope Motif...

Windmill 2

Rotunda...

Triangle Chain...

That's that lot done, this evening I have cut out a further ten blocks ready for sewing together tomorrow. I am finding this ally good way to do them all, I shall be caught up in no time.  I will say I don't actually like some of the blocks but decided to make all 52 of them regardless, when I have them all done, I shall decide what to make with them all, a possible is a few Soldier Quilts, all depends on how well they go together with the colours I have used!!

**************************************

I had a visitor last week, one of my ladies from my group came to show me her Quilt and how far she had got with it, Gail it was, her quilt is looking really good, I was stupid I should have taken a photo of it whilst it was here. Doh! But just look, she also bought me a present,

YUM YUM, I love these. Thank you Gail.

THE PEACOCK HAS LANDED

It made it, after a whole month it has arrived for Anita, apparently someone had crossed a word out of the address and put something else, so it took longer than usual. I am so pleased. She likes it too so that is a bonus. I may as well show you the other block I had made now as I wont be posting it to her after all...this was the back I showed you...

Here is the front..

This will languish in my sewing room unless Anita decides she would prefer this one.

PRETTY BITS AND PIECES

Ohh, very nearly put some piks here that can't go on yet!!!

This was from Kim, lovely fabric, very pleased with it...

Pretty buttons I received from Daisy Chain,
I also had a pattern but again I can't put it on here till I have made it,
cos I will spoil a surprise for someone.....

Being a bit sneaky here,
this block I have made to replace the one which went missing for Anita,
this is the back!!!!

this is the one that has gone missing...

oh well...

Today I cut strips of lots of fabrics ready to catch up with the Friday Block Party Blocks.

SUNDAY WITH REBECCA AND HEDWIG

Hedwig is of course Harry Potter's Snowy White Owl. Rebecca also has a Hedwig  - she is very INTO Harry Potter now, thanks to one of her teachers, and her Auntie who has all the HP books. She decided Hedwig would give a dance display today [Sunday] with me being the Commentator.
So here Ladies and Gentlemen for your enjoyment, may I present
HEDWIG the amazing dancing Owl

Perfect stance ready to begin her programme...

Oh just look at that, wonderful balance...

Hmm, a little soon to be taking a bow....

and off she goes, gliding round the floor...

once again, that incredible balance as she glides...

oops! Oh no we are led to believe this is all in the programme, she
has not taken a tumble..Phew!

WOW, spinning round on the floor like that,
amazing stuff we are seeing here...

Can you believe this move ladies and gentlemen,
I have never seen anything like it before...
and I have seen a few things....

camera seems to have got quite a good shot of the sole of her dance shoes,
hmm, I see they are from B a B..
no advertising on here folks!!!!

Again, another head swivel, how does she manage it...

Such grace, such balance,
such a crazy outfit she is wearing...

Not too sure but I do think this is once more in the expected programme,
Hedwig has not, I repeat NOT taken a tumble,
I hope the Judges realise this....

This was in fact the end of her 3 minute dance routine...
The Judges are deliberating over her score...
It is getting very tense in the Arena I can tell you...
and here they are, the results for Hedwig the Amazing dancing Owl

10     10     10     10     10     10
Fantastic

There you go Rebecca, your Hedwig is now as famous as Harry's -
maybe!!!

LAST QUILT SET OF THE YEAR

Saturday was the last meeting for the Quilt Set [my group] for this year. We had a wonderful turn out for it, I am always pleased when so many turn up, it makes it all worth while - if only it could be like this every meeting!  Not to worry, it was a lovely day, I took it easy and let everyone else to the running around! How lazy was I! I thoroughly enjoyed the day and hoped all the ladies did too. We had two new ladies join us, and they enjoyed themselves, they came up to me at the end of the day and said what a lovely group it was, how friendly everyone was, they couldn't wait for February to come round. So there we are, all's well that ends well....
Busy sewing...

Stitching away...

I love these candid shots...

Totally engrossed were Pam and Mary...

This was our Showtime for today...

Sorry about the blurred picture, this was a super sized bag...

This was so pretty...

Made by Maureen who we hadn't seen for a long while...

and more by her, all works in progress...

Another outstanding Quilt by Bridget, she has taken to Quilting
like a duck to water, she will go far I am sure...

This was finished by Rebecca, you have seen it before, she took it to show the ladies she
had finished it and it was going to be a Soldier's Quilt...

Kate's wonderful Iris hanging...

Betty went to Quorn and got this made, it is better in real life,
my camera was playing me up today, grrrr....

another you have seen before - sorry but it was taken for the ladies to see...

Suzanne made this - a grown up Advent Calendar for her friend Bridget...
she didn't know she was getting this - I love surprises...

Reb didn't know she was getting this either..also made by Suzanne,
she had made one for her friend and thought she best make one for Reb - save problems!!!!

the other one - again a dreadful picture...
the battery kept saying low low low

This is one of the new ladies, she caught up with how far the others had got with their project -
brilliant job too...

and the other new lady, she also cracked on with hers...

and this is Pat who joined last time, she too caught up with everybody...

Well done everyone, I am looking forward to seeing these all FINISHED in February next year!!!!

***************
then it was time for the Block Lotto
This had to be a 9 Patch 12" finished block made in green and cream
this was the one I made...

We had 15 blocks made in total,
aren't they great...
1st chosen had 8 blocks
2nd chosen had 4 blocks
3rd chosen had 3 blocks
again, I look forward to seeing what they make with them all in February----

*******************

Next up was the draw for the Charity Quilt and Bags.
They had made 9 patch blocks, which I chopped up and remade into the disappearing 9patch blocks and the resulting Quilt and Bags were made with these.
Irene won the Quilt
Michelle and Dee won a Bag each

We raised £160 which is going to the local Air Ambulance Team
Well done ladies, we will do it all again next year.

*******************************

Did you pick the winner
?????????
Middle row 4th along won 8 blocks
I was so proud because
Suzanne had made that block
then
Annette came second
and Betty came third.
Next time the chosen theme is Log Cabin - any variation
and the colour to use is Blue, any blue.
I have to tell you the top row, 5th one along was made by Rebecca.
Well done

************************************************************

Tomorrow I will put pictures up of the bits I bought from Lisa
yummy
